The Power of Chia Seeds

The Power of Chia Seeds

Superfoods - Chia Seeds are at #1!

Over the last few years chia seeds have become the top superfood in Australia. Whether you pop it in your breakfast, smoothie, dessert or baked goods. But why do we love them so much?

Chia seeds have been an important food for the Aztecs and Mayans and in fact Chia is the Mayan word for 'strength', so there must be something more promising, right?

Chia Seeds Nutritional InformationWhat kind of power could tiny black seeds have?
Small but more than beneficial, full of fibre, omega 3's, magnesium, a decent amount of zinc, vitamin B3, potassium, vitamin B1 and B2. That is only the tip of the nutritional iceberg. We are talking high antioxidant content to fight all those free radicals, low in calories and high in quality protein. Our chia seeds are organic, raw, vegan and gluten-free, so they are a great companion for weight loss or if you're on a special diet.

Now let's get down to business, I will share with you my favourite way to eat these little body gems. How about a healthy pudding? Here we go!

Kiwi Chia Pudding

1 can          GLOBAL ORGANICS Coconut Cream
3 - 4 tblsp   GLOBAL ORGANICS Coconut Sugar
1/4 cup       AOP Organic Chia Seeds
4                 Kiwi Fruits
Plus a handful of strawberries

Chia Kiwi Smoothie

Method:
1. Warm up the Coconut Cream in a small pot and slowly add the Coconut Sugar and Chia Seeds. Mix well and refrigerate till it is cool and set.
2. Peel and puree the kiwifruits and divide it into 6 glasses. Freeze it for around 20 - 30 minutes.

When the kiwi puree is set we add the Coconut Chia Pudding to the glasses.
And we have a beautiful, healthy and delicious dessert - or breakfast, snack, whenever you want to eat it! The handful of strawberries is just to give it another boost of fruits. Puree them as well and pop it on top of the Chia Pudding or cut them up and mix them in.

This recipe is so versatile. The Coconut Cream can easily be replaced with other plant milks, maybe even use our organic nuts and seeds to make your own, and the kiwi could be any other fruit you prefer. Another kiwi substitute favourite of mine is also mango!

Chia Bowl
Tip 1: If you don't have the time to cook it, puree it and so on, here is another tip:  Mix up the Chia Seeds and your cream or milk of choice and put it in the fridge over night. It will set while you are sleeping and be ready the next day. Just add some chopped fruits or even some organic chocolate, nuts, yoghurt - anything you can think of - and you have an easy and healthy dish.

Tip 2: If you don't like the texture of the little seeds, just puree the whole Chia pudding and you will have a smooth and lump free consistency.

If pudding just isn't your thing, just add the chia seeds to your yoghurt, juice or smoothie without letting them set. This also helps when you don't like the gel like texture and either way you will have the healthy and nourishing advantages.
